Your Imagery Work Break – 2019 Mondial Air Balloon Festival

We love maps.

We love imagery.

We love work breaks.

We hope you like them as well!

It’s June so that means it’s summer here in the Northern Hemisphere, woot woot! And so it’s definitely time to celebrate the warm weather with a quick walk outside, but before you head out, take a gander at this high off-nadir (or high tilt angle) 51-centimeter WorldView-3 image collected over Chambley Airfield in Hagéville, France on August 1, 2019. And wouldn’t you know it, this date just so happens to be right in the middle of the 10-day event, the Mondial Air Balloon Festival, that was held at the airfield from July 26th to August 4th. Put on every two years, the Mondial Air Balloon Festival is touted to be the largest festival of its kind in the world, with hundreds of pilots and hot air balloons in attendance for two daily ascents. This WorldView-3 image was collected at 1:05 PM local time so the balloons were already up in the air, but you can see a plethora of tents and campsites around the airfield attesting to the tens of thousands of event attendees. The next Mondial Air Balloon Festival is scheduled for July 26 to August 4, 2021 – anyone up for a quick socially-distanced trip to France?!

Have a great rest of your workday!
