Free For All – 2013 The Universe in Review

For the past 12 months, I have wrote about space and the microcosms thrust into its expanding vastness. This month it’s time to look back and see some of the greatest images taken of our Universe and the occasional selfie. I defer to a better individual then myself and one as bald as Brock, Phil Plait, writer of Slate‘s Bad Astronomy blog, as he has compiled a very noteworthy list of 2013’s best images. This year’s winners include a couple breathtaking mosaics of Saturn, chaotic collisions, stars dying violent deaths while others are forming in blooming clouds of gas, and still others, congregating  in tight formations. There is even a floating mustache and a very foreboding selfie of a sleeping giant; and who could forget an exciting year full of asteroid close calls?

Below is our favorite astronaut serenading planet Earth with David Bowie’s, “Space Oddity.”  Check out the full list with all of the winners here. Do it now!

Chris Hadfield, winner of Earth’s Got Talent,  does an amazing cover of “Space Oddity.” A huge thanks goes out to NASA, ROSCOMOS and the CSA for being so freaking cool!
