Do you have the need for regularly updated images of locations around the world?
Perhaps you need imagery to integrate with an OEM solution you are developing?
Or maybe your organization uses large amounts of high-resolution imagery each year, and you are seeking a low-cost option for this data?
If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, then the solution you are looking for is DigitalGlobe’s Global Basemap (GBM).
With Global Basemap, you have access to millions of square kilometers of imagery with low cloud-cover and off-nadir angles. This data is accessible in streaming web-mapping services as well as through an online viewer. And perhaps the most important feature of GBM is the regular updates you can receive as out-dated imagery is often of little or no use to our valued clients.
January 2018 Product Update
For our last edition of 2017 we found ourselves in South America with a surprising amount of coverage for a cloudy region; and for this first GBM update of 2018, we check out the coverage over Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). As you might expect, the coverage over the interior of SSA is less than ideal given the persistent cloud cover in the Tropics and jungles here. That said, in the drier regions of Africa, the coverage is quite excellent! Here are some coverage statistics to ponder:
- Sub-Saharan Africa GBM Coverage By Year
- Less than 1 year (yr) old – 17,886,104 sq km, 74.2% coverage of SSA
- 1 to 2 yr old – 19,298,987 sq km, 80.1% coverage
- 2 to 3 yr old – 6,713,182 sq km, 27.8% coverage
- 3 to 4 yr old – 4,097,497 sq km, 17.0% coverage
- 4 yr old and greater – 17,816,566 sq km, 73.9% coverage
- Total coverage – 65,812,336 sq km
- Total (approximate) area considered – 24,110,106 sq km
