- It’s tech, tech, tech time! So here we go with some fun new technological ideas you might have missed from the past month:
Process of lithium battery degradation identified.
This battery works even when folded or cut.
Highly-efficient device converts saltwater to freshwater.
Forever chemicals given new life in batteries.
- Well, this is a rare event but unfortunately another building nearly destroyed by Hurricane Helene was the National Centers for Environmental Information which is located in Asheville, North Carolina. It was significantly damaged during the hurricane so as of now, all monthly global climate reports are paused.
- November’s Geography Awareness Week highlights the essential role of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in education and research. GIS technologies have helped shape our understanding of climate change, urban planning, and natural disasters by providing in-depth spatial analysis. One prime example is how GIS has been used to map and monitor the growth of urban heat islands in cities, a key concern as we battle climate change. By tracking and visualizing data over time, researchers can develop strategies to mitigate these heat islands and protect vulnerable communities. GIS truly brings geography to life, connecting data to real-world challenges and solutions, such as climate change and disaster response.
