Apollo News Snippets – May 2019

The March 2019 temperature departure map shows record warmth over a large section of the southern Atlantic Ocean as well as pockets of record warmth in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe and North America. There were also pockets of cooler weather in the Midwest of the USA, Africa, Asia and South America.
  • The March 2019 NOAA Global Climate Report is out and well it was a warm month, a really warm month in fact. March 2019 is second warmest March in the 140-year record, surpassed only by March 2016; and it also ties January 2016 as the 5th warmest month ever. And in case you were wondering, the 20 warmest months on record have all occurred since 2015 – but you know, nothing to see or do here according to the Trump administration…
  • Mother’s Day falls on May 12th this year and in honor of this important holiday, my Google search of the month was, “GIS and mothers.” If you look through the multiple hits you will get, you might find this data on mother’s highest education attainment rates for Illinois as complied by the IECAM. As you can imagine, parental education levels are a key factor in determining childhood educational attainment so this data helps us predict how the next generation may succeed in the classroom.
