The second panchromatic satellite owned by ImageSat International, EROS B was launched into orbit on April 25, 2006 from Svobodny Launch Complex, Russia. This high resolution satellite orbits the Earth at a height between 516 and 524 kilometers (km), collecting black and white imagery with an average resolution of 70 centimeters (cm). EROS B is the only high resolution satellite that can be tasked to collect nighttime imagery. This data has a wide array of uses including urban sprawl measurements, light pollution detection and population estimates.
