Your Imagery Work Break – 2025 Oktoberfest

We love maps.

We love imagery.

We love work breaks.

We hope you like them as well!

What happens when a beer festival and fair combine? You end up with Oktoberfest, the world’s largest Volksfest. It’s held annually in Munich on the Theresienwiese from mid-September to the first Sunday in October, and it serves as the world’s largest celebration of Bavarian culture.

The event draws around seven million visitors each year. In 2023, attendance reached a record 7.2 million. No surprise – visitors consumed approximately 7.4 million liters of beer that year. The festival features amusement rides, games, food stalls, and traditional Bavarian dishes.

The first Oktoberfest was held October 12, 1810, to celebrate the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. Today, many communities host their own local Oktoberfest celebrations, but none as huge as the one and only authentic Oktoberfest in Munich. This year’s Oktoberfest runs from September 19th through October 4th. Organizers note that this year, the beer prices range from €14.80 to €15.90, with two tents opting for a price freeze and one even deciding to lower prices.

In 2026, for the first time ever, the large festival tents will be allowed to play music on weekdays starting at 11 a.m. and on weekends starting at 10 a.m. – with the exception of opening day, of course. This year, The Fisherman’s Place is a new fun house featuring water effects. Shake & Roll also marks the return of a ride type popular with past Oktoberfest-goers.

As wildly popular as Oktoberfest is, Apollo Mapping has captured images of past events that you can view online now.

For this month’s Imagery Work Break, we feature a WorldView Legion 30-centimeter color-enhanced photo taken September 21, 2025 when the 2025 edition of the festival was underway! In the WorldView Legion image, we can see people milling about, likely sampling the adult beverages and snacks sold at Oktoberfest, as well as all the vendor tents set up for the big festival. The event, located inside a bean-shaped area, shows how popular and well attended Oktoberfest is.

Have a great rest of your workday! 😊
