It has been a bit since I featured a free geospatial tool in my Free For All article so this month I break the trend with this Batch Metadata Modifier Tool created by the University of Idaho. This tool has a bunch of handy functions that can be run on a set of geodatabases. For instance, you can find and replace text in metadata records. Another cool one is the ability to create a set of preview images for your raster and vector datasets which is super handy for folks managing lots of spatial data. One thing to note is that this software is still considered beta so you might back up any files you plan on working with in the Batch Metadata Modifier Tool to be sure your valuable original copies are not permanently altered or even destroyed.
Until my next edition of the Free For All, happy hunting for free geospatial goodies!
