An Update on Astrium’s High Resolution Satellite, Pléiades 1A

It has been a month now since the commercialization of Astrium’s first high resolution satellite, Pléiades 1A, and the feedback from Apollo Mapping clients has been 100% positive. A variety of Pléiades 1A products are available from both a growing archive and as a new collection, including 50-centimeter (cm) pansharpened imagery and 50-cm panchromatic – 2-meter (m) 4-band multispectral bundles. The Apollo Mapping team is happy to discuss the technical specifications, pricing and tasking options available with this new satellite constellation as Pléiades 1A will be joined in space by its twin, Pléiades 1B, later this year.

  • The imagery archive is already growing and is well targeted as the most recent coverage available over a bustling urban center in southern Nigeria was Pléiades 1A data.
  • Astrium is able to deliver on their Pléiades 1A tasking feasibilities as they collected imagery with less than 10% cloud cover in Central America within 14 days of order confirmation.
  • Pléiades 1A data is crisp with excellent color saturation putting this imagery on par with competitors’ 50-cm commercial satellites.

Pléiades 1A Speculative Orders

Do you have an area of interest that needs recent high resolution coverage now?!

If so, Pléiades 1A is often able to collect recent coverage over the geographies that are of the most interest to you as it is a new satellite with extra collection capacity. Contact the Apollo Mapping sales team to learn more about speculative orders over your key geographies.

Photo Enhance Your Next Pléiades 1A Order

We completed a round of tests this past month on Pléiades 1A imagery to see if we could improve its sharpness with Photo Enhance. And the results speak for themselves as you can see in the series of animations below.

Click on each image below to see an animation comparing standard deliveries of Pléiades 1A imagery to ones processed with Photo Enhance. We used the same color balance for both the standard and enhanced versions to accentuate the improvements in sharpness Photo Enhance offers.
