(Almost) Free For All – SpyMeSat

Sometimes the coolest things in life are not free, but this month’s Free For All is so cheap, it mine as well be free! Put together by the friendly folks at Orbit Logic who share our co-working space here in Boulder, this month we feature an iPhone and Android app called SpyMeSat. With this $1.99 mobile app, users are able to track the location of a variety of satellites with respect to any position on the ground. Once location pins are added to SpyMeSat, users receive alerts when their satellites of choice are overhead. We see this app having two distinct use cases:

  1. Adding the locations of your active tasking orders so you know when a satellite has visibility to your ground targets.
  2. Active alerts when an optical satellite is directly over your head so that you are aware images of your location (including the immediate surroundings) could be captured.

Until my next edition of the Free For All, happy hunting for free geospatial goodies!
