Asteroids have been all the rage lately!
And NASA has exerted a lot of time and effort searching for potentially hazardous asteroids, as this appears to be more important than any other scientific pursuit in the eyes of those who hold NASA’s purse strings. To simplify and improve the process, NASA and Planetary Resources are conducting the Asteroid Grand Challenge, involving citizen scientists and amateur astronomers in the search for asteroids. NASA new app, Asteroid Data Hunter, allows users to take images from their telescopes and load them in the app for detection. The code is also available for download for anyone who wants to tinker and alter the algorithm. So join the search and find yourself an asteroid!
